Pneumonia vaccinations are available free of charge to the following patients only:

  • People aged 65 and over
  • Patients with a serious medical condition such as:
    • chronic (long-term) respiratory disease, such as severe asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
    • chronic heart disease, such as ischaemic heart disease, angina, heart failure
    • chronic kidney disease
    • chronic liver disease
    • chronic neurological disease, such as Parkinson’s disease or motor neurone disease, or learning disability
    • diabetes
    • immunocompromised, that is with a weakened immune system due to disease or treatment (e.g. for cancer)

Most patients will get lifelong immunity from a single vaccination, but we recommend revaccination every five years for the immunocompromised and those with COPD.
