Pneumonia vaccinations are available free of charge to the following patients only:
- People aged 65 and over
- Patients with a serious medical condition such as:
- chronic (long-term) respiratory disease, such as severe asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- chronic heart disease, such as ischaemic heart disease, angina, heart failure
- chronic kidney disease
- chronic liver disease
- chronic neurological disease, such as Parkinson’s disease or motor neurone disease, or learning disability
- diabetes
- immunocompromised, that is with a weakened immune system due to disease or treatment (e.g. for cancer)
Most patients will get lifelong immunity from a single vaccination, but we recommend revaccination every five years for the immunocompromised and those with COPD.
